Liberty 2-4 changing call signs? Wait and see.
The Capitalmind Momentum Portfolio factsheet for July 2022. When 'New Horizons', the spacecraft NASA launched in January 2006 to travel three billion miles to explore Pluto, the most distant celestial body in our solar system, it reached its destination nine and a half years later in July 2015. And it did so within 72 seconds of the originally estimated time. 72 seconds off after travelling three billion miles over nine and a half years. Financial forecasts and models, open sourced or otherwise, with 137 input parameters, cash flow projections down to four decimals and a stock price estimate for 2026 might look deceptively similar to what went into the New Horizons estimate but ask yourself why Google Maps gets arrival times wrong on 20-minute road trips. Because there are people involved. People introduce uncertainty. And there are lots of those involved in determining outcomes for businesses. Even more in determining stock prices.

A rollercoaster June, a late surge and a reminder
We, turns out presciently, had the Mike Tyson 'Goodnight' gif in the May 2021 Momentum note about how markets surprise when you least expect them to. Surprise they did, but courtesy of a small set of stocks that had found their way into every momentum portfolio over the last year. The Adani pack, following some interesting developments, caused a flutter by reversing course. The solitary stock in the CM Momentum portfolio allowed a fortuitous exit mid-month and with a late surge, we still ended up +5% compared to +1.9% for the CNX500 and a +1.1% for the NIFTY. Capitalmind Momentum however, had a strong month with a +13.6% gain. Read on for the March 2021 summary.

Returns Update October started on a positive note, with the index touching 12,000, of which the system could capture close to 600 points on the active component, then came the whipsaws, taking us out of trades, leading to one of the longest losing streaks of the year.
