Capitalmind Premium League - 2021 Results and 2022 launch
We started Capitalmind Premium League last year - a fantasy stock-picking exercise for Capitalmind Premium subscribers. The idea was to put ourselves in the shoes of the fund manager and take bets on stocks to beat the market in the coming year. But then, stock picking, in one sense, is a behavioural exercise; it's not about picking what you like. It is more about sizing what others may like. In his beauty contest analogy, Keynes likened it with how participants would behave in a contest to choose the most beautiful faces from several hundred photographs. The winners would be the ones chosen to be the most popular, and therefore contestants would be better off guessing the tastes of the majority. Then there is also this forward-looking aspect to the markets. You need to guess what the majority would prefer in the future. While we wanted to have as much fun doing this exercise, the market has different plans in store. The year-long rally meant most portfolios did well. Here is a round-up of the 2021 edition and announcement of the next one!

First hand lessons for Investors and Traders from the Capitalmind Premium Community
"What the market teaches you is humility. That you can take nothing for granted, and that value is a figment of your imagination. Investing decisions, therefore are ticking time bombs. We all make mistakes and that’s just fine. But we would be stupid to not admit when we are wrong. Humility is the first thing the market teaches you – you earlier learn it fast, or it will be the last thing the market teaches you." On Teachers' Day, members of the incredible Capitalmind Premium community share their biggest learnings from the markets. Novice or Experienced veteran, Investor or Trader, you will find some incredible food for thought here.

Five perils of momentum investing you cannot ignore
Momentum investing has become the rage these days. Not surprising given the purple patch momentum strategies have been going through over the last 18 months. Call it herding or a side-effect of slightly over-the-top marketing by some practitioners offering the best momentum investing strategy, there is a headlong rush of investors. And as more new investors pile onto the momentum bandwagon, we are increasingly seeing unrealistic expectations. New investors to equities in general, or to momentum as a philosophy. So we decided to do some anti-marketing of momentum investing. Read on for the five perils of momentum investing to keep in mind for new and seasoned investors.

ITI Value Fund NFO: Old bottle. Cracked Cork.
ITI Mutual Fund has launched an NFO (New Fund Offering) for an active equity fund called the ITI Value Fund. The NFO is open from 25th May to 8th June 2021. We took a look to see if it makes sense for investors. Short Answer: Since discretionary bottom up strategies can't be backtested, how long would it take to be convinced of an individual or team's superior discretionary stock-picking skills? Five years? Ten? ITI Value Fund says all the right things about picking underpriced stocks. A few too many things in fact. The problem is so does every discretionary equity fund. We'd have to see evidence before investing. Read on for our detailed take on the ITI Value Fund NFO.

In this episode of the Capitalmind Podcast we discuss what is momentum investing, the key research by academics and practitioners that started the exploration into this strategy, the two schools of thought that explain why it exists. How it applies to Indian markets, and our analysis into whether it has worked. Also the downsides of momentum, both real and perceived, and in what ways it can be a good counterweight to a bottom-up fundamentally picked portfolio. We close with how we manage the Momentum portfolio at Capitalmind, and the differences between the Premium and the PMS Momentum portfolio.
