Quick look: Performance of NSE Nifty Indices
The Nifty has been more or less flat over the last year. Did you know that you'd be sitting with a 1-year return of 50+% if you had invested in the Nifty India Defence Index - a thematic 12-stock index of companies largely made up of PSUs in the defence manufacturing space? A little less surprisingly, your next best bet would've been the Nifty PSU Bank Index, up nearly 40% in the last year. That is 3x what the Nifty Private Bank Index has done over the same duration. Three other sectoral indices, Nifty CPSE, Auto, and FMCG, advanced more than 20% when most stocks struggled. This post is a quick look comparing the performance of over 50 NSE Indices.

Podcast: Turbulent times - RBI thrives, Fed fumbles
. Markets are slaves of earnings and liquidity. Liquidity has taken prominence after the coronavirus outbreak. At first, central banks across the world increased liquidity by cutting rates and helping their populace to live through the pandemic. Then the after effects of increasing liquidity hit - increased inflation. Now, the same banks are sucking out liquidity by increasing interest rates to counter inflation. The looming after effect of increasing rates is the "r" word that is too pious to speak loudly. In this podcast, Deepak & Shray discuss the two central banks that impact us the most - RBI and FED (Federal Reserve System, USA). What makes this podcast interesting is that we are looking at everything from the lens of who does better - FED or RBI? .

The Market Loves Drugs & Tech; Hates Power and the Powerful
The performance of the Nifty 50 index has been patchy from last Samvat because of the outbreak of Covid-19. The lockdown imposed from the last week of March 2020 led the Nifty 50 index slip over 35% from its all-time high. However, since then the index has touched new highs led by select heavyweights. Pharma and IT stocks were among the top gainers from the last Samvat, while PSU energy stocks were among the top losers. We take a look at some of the biggest NIFTY winners and losers over the last year and what might lie ahead.
