ITI Value Fund NFO: Old bottle. Cracked Cork.
ITI Mutual Fund has launched an NFO (New Fund Offering) for an active equity fund called the ITI Value Fund. The NFO is open from 25th May to 8th June 2021. We took a look to see if it makes sense for investors. Short Answer: Since discretionary bottom up strategies can't be backtested, how long would it take to be convinced of an individual or team's superior discretionary stock-picking skills? Five years? Ten? ITI Value Fund says all the right things about picking underpriced stocks. A few too many things in fact. The problem is so does every discretionary equity fund. We'd have to see evidence before investing. Read on for our detailed take on the ITI Value Fund NFO.

Nippon India Asset Allocator FoF NFO: Should you invest?
Nippon India Mutual Fund has launched an NFO (New Fund Offering) for Asset Allocator FoF, a new Fund of Funds that will invest in a combination of equity, debt, and gold funds. The NFO is open from 18th Jan to 1st Feb 2021. We took a look to see if it makes sense for investors. Short Answer: A rules-based asset allocation approach as this fund describes can be a powerful method to manage long-term returns. However the lack of information on backtest results, and the fact that Nippon India launched another similar fund less than 6 months ago make this fund's purpose puzzling. We wouldn't jump in yet. Read on for our take on the Nippon India Asset Allocator FoF NFO.

Axis Special Situations Fund: Should you invest?
Axis Mutual Fund has launched an NFO (New Fund Offering) for a thematic active equity fund called the Axis Special Situations Fund. The NFO is open from 4th Dec to 18th Dec 2020. We took a look to see if it makes sense for investors. Short Answer: Yes. In a world of similar-sounding active mutual fund pitches, this one stands out by aiming to pick companies that are likely to benefit from disruptions. By defining disruptions broadly, they give themselves some leeway for the kind of stocks they will pick, which is not a bad thing. By aiming to allocate 35% to international stocks, they offer much-needed international diversification to Indian investors. The first portfolio disclosure after launch will be the true test of whether they stick to that eloquent marketing pitch. Read on for our take on the Axis Special Situations Fund NFO.

Aditya Birla Sun Life ESG Fund NFO: Should you invest?
Aditya Birla Mutual Fund has launched an NFO (New Fund Offering) for an active equity fund called the Aditya Birla Sun Life ESG Fund. The NFO is open from 4th Dec to 18th Dec 2020. We took a look to see if it makes sense for investors. Short Answer: No. Yet another ESG fund launch. We recently wrote about the Kotak ESG Opportunities Fund. While the core idea with this fund is the same, the Aditya Birla Sun Life ESG Fund presents a more compelling marketing pitch for ESG investing, which doesn't quite stand up to scrutiny. Read on for our take on the Aditya Birla Sun Life ESG Fund NFO.

Kotak ESG Opportunities Fund NFO: Should you invest?
Kotak Mahindra Mutual Fund has launched an NFO (New Fund Offering) for an active equity fund called the Kotak ESG Opportunities Fund. The NFO is open from 20th Nov to 4th Dec 2020. We took a look to see if it makes sense for investors. Short Answer: No. ESG is a convenient marketing label that allows the fund house to offer yet another actively managed fund with little differentiation from existing funds. Investors should just give this a miss. Read on for our take on the Kotak ESG Opportunities Fund NFO.

DSP Value Fund NFO: Should you invest?
DSP Mutual Fund has launched an NFO (New Fund Offering) for an active equity fund called the DSP Value Fund. The NFO is open from 20th Nov to 4th Dec 2020. We took a look to see if it makes sense for investors. Short Answer: Unlike market-cap based categories, there are no clearly defined rules on what makes a value fund. As a group, Value / Contra funds have struggled to beat the NIFTY over the last five years. A new fund in this category will need to demonstrate meaningful differentiation in how it picks domestic and international stocks before it can be considered a worthy addition to a portfolio Read on for our take on the DSP Value Fund NFO.

Axis Global Equity Alpha Fund of Fund: Should you invest?
Axis Mutual Fund has launched an NFO (New Fund Offering) for a Fund of Funds investing globally. The NFO is open from 4th to 18th September 2020. We took a look to see if it makes sense for investors. Investing globally should be an essential part of an Indian investor's asset allocation strategy. But the Schroder Global Equity Alpha Fund (the underlying fund this Fund of Funds invests in), has struggled to beat its benchmark over the long term. Investors are better off picking lower cost funds that invest globally, but passively.

Invesco India Focused 20 Equity Fund: Should you invest?
Invesco has launched an NFO (New Fund Offering) for a Focused Multi-Cap Equity Mutual Fund. The NFO is open from 9th to 23rd September 2020. We took a look to see if it makes sense for investors. Short Answer: Unlike Large Cap funds that produce similar returns and underperform low-cost ETFs, Multicap funds see significant performance dispersion. So it matters which fund you pick. Unless you have reason to believe the fund managers of this new fund bring a unique advantage to the table, you are better off with funds with a track record.
