What to expect from the markets in 2023
Forecasting is a very difficult business, like selecting lottery tickets. 2022 saw geopolitical war, worldwide inflation, a massive hike in interest rates worldwide, Market volatility, Indian markets stable. If anyone got this spot on, they could still be terribly wrong for 2023. That's why we don't predict, we react. Still, listen in to what we think changes for the world in 2023, without actual predictions that pretend to be investing insights.

Podcast: Turbulent times - RBI thrives, Fed fumbles
. Markets are slaves of earnings and liquidity. Liquidity has taken prominence after the coronavirus outbreak. At first, central banks across the world increased liquidity by cutting rates and helping their populace to live through the pandemic. Then the after effects of increasing liquidity hit - increased inflation. Now, the same banks are sucking out liquidity by increasing interest rates to counter inflation. The looming after effect of increasing rates is the "r" word that is too pious to speak loudly. In this podcast, Deepak & Shray discuss the two central banks that impact us the most - RBI and FED (Federal Reserve System, USA). What makes this podcast interesting is that we are looking at everything from the lens of who does better - FED or RBI? .

Freeing the Rupee: RBI Allows Foreign Trade Settlement in INR
The internationalization of the rupee gets a major kick. We can denominate trade in Indian Rupees (INR) rather than in USD or EUR, with the RBI freeing up rules in our banking system. Even if probably designed to help us trade with Russia, the change has much greater ramifications. Read on.

After a poor first two months of the calendar year 2022, the Capitalmind Momentum Portfolio had a decent March with +6% (NIFTY +4%). The March recovery means we're still down -5% over the first three months of 2022, the NIFTY is marginally up at +0.6% over the same period. CM Momentum closed FY2022 at a respectable +33% while the NIFTY did +19%.

On Market Timing: What if you were the luckiest investor in India?
Covid, lockdowns, forced working from home were the guests who would never leave. After two years, we had just about managed to manoeuvre them toward the door. And just as you cracked the door open with the pleasurable anticipation of their exit, this other group of distant and not very likeable relatives in the form of Russia-Ukraine, barges in, arguing loudly among themselves. The markets have more than doubled from the low of March 2020, up almost 130% as of writing this. They're also up 40% from pre-March2020-crash levels, so even the Feb 2020 investor has done pretty well. But no one wants to be that guy. The guy who invested just before a big fall. And so, once more the most frequent question is: Is this a good time to invest? In other words, how do I NOT be the shmuck who bought at the top?

We accept the reality that’s presented to us
I’ve just finished watching Inventing Anna. It’s a wicked ride embellished by fancy names and false appearances. In that strange world, where people try hard to build and live up to a reputation and appear classy by a crass display of money, the inspiration to write this note came right at the very end. It involves Frank Sinatra.
